Updates From Microsoft

No, this isn't some big announcement from Microsoft about Vista.

If you have your Microsoft operating system set to receive updates automatically, know that you might not be getting all the updates you need to make your computer function properly.  The automatic updates only give you "critical" updates...those that "may" help your computer to operate correctly have to be selected by going to the Microsoft Web site.

I found out about this problem by getting a message that a USB port had a power overload, and it had to be properly reset or it would no longer function.  The strange thing was that I received this message when there was nothing connected to the USB port.  To make a long story short, I discovered that I received the message only after using my USB mouse (which, up to that point, I had not used).  Checking into the "hardware" updates, I found that there was an update for a USB mouse that was released in 2003.  However, since it was not a critical update, it was not automatically installed.

After selecting the update to be installed, I have not received the error message, and the mouse functioning appropriately.
