SchoolAdvancement(SM): Helping Schools Advance Toward Their Vision Through Growth

Fish Where the Fish Are

Since the first quarter of the school year is now history, this is the time to start recruiting next year's Kindergarten.  If your elementary school has a pre-school or a pre-K program, prepare a letter to be sent to the parents of those children with a tie in to an election theme (since tomorrow is Election Day) because they will be making a choice regarding where their children will go next year.  Many of you may already do this during Catholic Schools Week, but asking them to consider your school and handing them a financial assistance application at the same time sends a mercenary message.  To approach parents now simply with information and an invitation for a tour (if they're new to the school) will give them some positive impressions about the great learning environment your school has to offer their child, without the pressure of completing financial forms.

If you're not associated with a pre-K program, this is the time to consider starting one for next year.  In the meantime, locate pre-K programs in your area.  Since many of them might not let you distribute information to their parents (they might have their own Kindergarten programs), some strategically placed yard signs publicizing your school in their vicinity could take the place of political yard signs once Election Day is history.  Be sure to ask for permission from the landowners - maybe they're some of your current parents!
