Re-energize Your School For 2009
As we begin 2009, we know it will be a year of change - a new President of our nation, a difficult economy, and learning that takes place in our students (indeed, when learning takes place, change happens). So, let's make a new year's resolution to embrace change rather than fear it.
Speaking of our new President, there was some analysis done as to why the Democratic Party gained so much ground in this past national election, as well as the elections in 2006. These were the things that were highlighted as the reasons for its success:
- Charismatic leadership
- Use of the Internet
- Successful Fundraising
- Grassroots Campaigning
- Consistent Messaging
- Calling for Accountability
Note that five of these six items deal directly with the five aspects of advancement:
- Development (Successful Fundraising)
- Retention (Use of the Internet) to solidify the relationship
- Enrollment (Grassroots Campaigning to register voters)
- Asset Management (Calling for Accountability)
- Marketing (Consistent Messaging)
Also note that all these aspects have an effect on one another, and without each other, there world be a breakdown in the process.
Above all those was the aspect of Charismatic Leadership. Is the leadership of your school "charismatic?"
If not, may I be so bold as to say that it if it isn't, your school may share the same fate as the Republican party in this last election, and you may lose - lose enrollment. Charismatic leadership providing a compelling vision. That's step one for 2009. Do it now to prepare for Catholic Schools Week.
